The focus and zoom control rings operate reasonably smooth
autofocus system is quite reliable
excellent upgrade of a compact telephoto lens with a great focal length

smaller than that and the image becomes quite soft indeed
slower aperture and reduced focal range

The focus and zoom control rings operate reasonably smooth
autofocus system is quite reliable
excellent upgrade of a compact telephoto lens with a great focal length
The lens focuses very fluidly for video as well
bokeh of fast telephoto lenses is more attractive
Improved Transmission will improve the cameras autofocus performance
the focal point is indeed good in all regards
smooth

and quick centering execution
Build quality is good for a plastic lens and moving parts are acceptably tight
Focus speed is good under decent light levels
STM version is well worth the price premium
The results it delivers are quite good
the lens performed reasonably well
STM IS performs very similar to the IS II
making the zoom ring very easy to find and use
The manual focus ring is smooth and easy to use

A budget-priced tele-zoom lens with built-in image stabilisation.Canon's new EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS is designed specifically for cameras with 'APS-C' sized sensors and combines light weight with a very low price tag for an optically-stabilised lens. On the EOS 400D and 40D cameras we used for our tests, its focal length range is equivalent to 88-400mm on a 35mm camera. It's a fairly slow lens - and this is apparent in the viewfinder when you're shooting.
