Pros

  • AF speed is generally fine
  • Both focusing and zoom rings moved smoothly and positively with no slack
  • focuses quietly and smoothly as well as quickly
  • they focus more quietly and smoothly
  • The focus is very fast
  • more accurate and especially more quiet than with a mechanical control
  • the bokeh is fairly decent
  • producing amazingly steady handheld moving pan shots
  • The lens is equally impressive in tracking mode
  • both fast and accurate
  • The zoom action is nice and smooth

Cons

  • internally - and filters do not rotate when focusing
  • see flare as an issue for this lens
  • chart did - the lens does not produce exciting image sharpness
  • somewhat soft center-of-the-image results and noticeably soft corners
  • Barrel distortion at 18mm is highly noticeable
  • Chromatic aberrations can sometimes be visible at 18mm
  • Falloff of illumination towards the corners
  • colour fringing becomes less of an issue
  • Distortion is often a weakness of superzoom lenses
  • it will not mount on a full-frame body
  • edges that are noticeably soft at 1
