Pentax has today announced its first swivel lens compact in the shape of the stylish Optio X which echoes Nikon's early design of the 900 series. The right hand side rotates 180 degrees upwards and 90 degrees downwards. Manfactured from aluminium alloy and resin coating, the Optio X boasts five megapixels and is the slimmest camera in the range at 18mm. It will be available in October.
Review posted 12/06/2004 Click on the Optio X to take a QuickTime VR tour Offering twice the versatility in digital imaging, the PENTAX Optio X opens with just a twist of the hand and positions the lens on one side for shooting freedom and the generous LCD monitor on the other side for viewing ease.
The Pentax Optio W80 is a new all-action, go-everywhere camera. The W80 is shock, freeze, dust and water proof, features 12 megapixels, a 5x zoom lens and HD movie recording, and currently costs less than £250 / $275. Mark Goldstein braved the elements to find out if the Pentax W80 can survive what passes for a British summer...

AnandTech has a review of Pentax's new twistable Optio X digital camera. The specs seem to hit all the right notes, 5 megapixel with a 3x optical zoom, but as you can expect with ultra-compact cameras, there are some trade offs. Resolution is below average, and it has slow shutter lag and lackluster battery life. But if style's your primary concern, the Optio X will run you about $300. [Via Photography Blog].
The Pentax Optio X has an accomplished and comprehensive specification with fair picture quality but counterintuitive and fiddly controls
