Pentax KX 35mm SLRs user reviews : 4.9 out of 5 - 20 reviews - photographyreview.com
At just £326 exc VAT, the Pentax K-x is about as cheap as DSLRs get. That means we know what to expect: a cheap and cheerful camera that lacks features but atones in terms of value. Right? Wrong. The
Pentax have been producing excellent DSLR cameras for some time now, and their latest model, the K-x model, is certainly no exception. The small and lightweight 12 megapixel Pentax Kx has a wealth of features, including 4.7fps continuous shooting, 11-point auto-focus, high-definition video, auto modes for beginners and manual modes for experts. With an official price of £599.99 / $599.95, the K-x also won't break the bank. Mark Goldstein finds out if the new Pentax Kx deserves a place on your DSLR short-list...
A compact, feature-rich DLSR camera that comes in white, bright red and dark navy as well as basic black.Ever the innovator, Pentax is the first company to offer a DSLR camera in colours other than black and grey. The 12.4 megapixel K-x model will be available in a choice of white or black, as well as bright red and dark navy. Its small body makes the K-x one of the most compact, lightweight models in its class. However, this camera also provides heaps of in-camera adjustments plus the ability to record HD video clips.
Budget-priced DSLRs make up a pretty crowded sector and one that deserves investigation from anyone about to enter the wonderful and empowering world of this type of shooting gear. As a DSLR, the Pentax K-x is about as good as it gets and, aside from engaging with a venerable name in cameras, taking it on
Pentax K-x
Here are the best DSLR cameras selling for less than $2,000, including top picks for beginners, hobbyists and video shooters.
The awkwardly named yet highly competent K-x is another entry-level D-SLR from Pentax (www.pentaximaging.com) that combines impressive for-the-money 12.4-megapixel resolution with copious amounts of style. The K-x is available in your choice of white or black as well as special, limited edition red and navy versions, all with a body price ($599.95) that’s much less than Leica charges just to paint one of their M-series cameras.
The Pentax K-x sits in the slot previously occupied by the company's K200D - one of the best-specified entry-level DSLRs on the market in its time - though that position has now been elevated by the arrival of a new breed of simplified models below it. In Pentax's line-up that means the K2000/K-m designed to entice compact camera users into DSLR ownership with its easy-to-use interface and diminutive scale, and it's that camera the K-x is immediately reminiscent of (they share the same body).

The features list on this camera puts its competitors to shame. No one else has anything like the HDR expander and the ability to record RAW files in Adobe's universal DNG format is a boon.
