Pros

  • Fast focusing
  • quiet and IS is useful
  • great focal length range
  • USM Lens performs reasonably well optically
  • it is an excellent value
  • very good lens with great IQ
  • Image Stabilisation is efficient
  • sharp enough in its category and price range
  • Results on film are very good too
  • good edge and corner sharpness and very good centre sharpness
  • image quality is very good for its price

Cons

  • not low-light action-stopping specs
  • Zoom ring turns 80 degrees clockwise
  • lens cannot be used for object tracking purposes
  • not included is a lens pouch/case
  • -78BII Lens Hood is not included in the box
  • The zoom creep is very annoying
  • Very difficult to use close-up neglecting the focus reliability
  • Vignetting is noticeable at the wider apertures
  • distortion at 28mm is bothersome
  • Colors are a little flat and lack a lot of 'pop'
  • The focus ring is narrow and uncomfortable
