Which high-end full-frame camera should I buy? This roundup contains the majority of current full-frame camera offerings available. Full-frame cameras have image sensors as large as a frame of 35mm film, and for good reason: larger sensors offer the potential for better image quality, low light performance, and dynamic range. If you want a drastic upgrade to the image quality of your phone, or portraits with superior subject to background separation, it’s hard to beat what full-frame offers.
We compare the new Sony Cyber-shot RX1R II with the Sony Cyber-shot RX1, and RX1R to see what new features the RX1R II brings to the RX Cyber-shot line-up.
A larger sensor than most compacts, but a bigger price tag than most DSLRs
Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 was one of the most talked about cameras of 2012, but now the RX1R has had the anti-aliasing filter removed from its 24.3-million-pixel, full-frame sensor. We find out just how much difference this makes to image quality.
World's smallest digital full-frame camera has anti-aliasing filter removed
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II puts an incredible high-resolution full-frame image sensor and fixed lens into a form factor that's almost pocket friendly.
The Sony RX1R is a compact camera with a big sensor and big price tag
Look familiar? The Sony Cyber-shot RX1R doesn't replace its near-clone the RX1, but sits alongside it at the top of Sony's Cyber-shot lineup. The only difference between this camera and its cousin (brother?) is that the RX1R lacks an anti-aliasing filter on its 24MP CMOS sensor. Removing AA filters seems to be very fashionable at present. Nikon has done it in the D800E and D7100, let's not forget the Pentax K-5 IIs, and, of course, Fujifilm's X-Pro1, X-E1, X100S and X-M1 all share an X-TRANS sensor that never had an AA filter in the first place.
Following on from the unexpected buzz surrounding the original RX1 full-frame compact from Sony with its fixed focal length Zeiss 35mm f/2 lens, the firm has now introduced a follow up with a modified sensor and image processing engine. Read on to find outhow well the new RX1R performs in our labs.
Sony surprises with the 42MP variable LPF RX1R II full-frame compact. See our Sony RX1R II review for all the details!

Following the separate assessment of the modified sensor in Sony’s special edition RX1R high-end full-frame compact we’ve now analyzed its fixed focal length Carl Zeiss Sonnar 2,0/35 lens. Sony claim this new model has improved resolution and image sharpness but just how well does this fine-tuned combination perform?
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R is a new version of last year's RX1 with the optical low-pass filter removed, promising increased resolution but at the risk of increased moire effects. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R is otherwise identical to the RX1, featuring a 35mm Carl Zeiss prime lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/2, full 1080p high-definition video, high-resolution 3-inch screen, manual shooting modes, 5fps continuous shooting, ISO range of 50-25,600, and 14-bit raw support. Read our expert Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R review to find out if it can improve on the original RX1...
In late June 2013 Sony announced the Cybershot Rx1R, an extension of its spectacular and unique Rx1, introduced last year. But first, a recap. When I reviewed the Rx1 last winter I wrote… I hate sounding like a fanboy, but I must say that the Sony RX1 presses all the right buttons for me – no pun intended. Build quality [Read More]
