It could be a bit quicker at shooting and saving its 8-megapixel files but the CoolPix’s build, features and versatility are amazing
The eight megapixel wide angle zoom Coolpix 8400 was announced along with the Coolpix 8800 and Coolpix 4800 on 16th September in the run-up to Photokina 2004. By it's name it's clear that the Coolpix 8400 is intended as the direct successor to the 2003 five megapixel Coolpix 5400 which also featured a wide angle zoom lens, although not as wide as the 8400's impressive 24 mm equiv. On paper then the 8400 appears to be a highly capable eight megapixel prosumer digital camera with a new (and unique) 24 - 85 mm equiv. (3.5x) zoom lens. It's probably worth noting that other than the body design and lens system the 8400 and 8800 are virtually identical in specification and features.
The CoolPix 8400 has an 8MP resolution and a 24mm - 86mm zoo
Features & Controls The Coolpix 8400 employs a very rugged and durable magnesium chassis. The Coolpix 8400 features a 3.5x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens with a focal length coverage of 24-85mm (35mm equivalent) and a maximum aperture of F2.6-4.9. The lens features a 7-bladed diaphram for true

Physically, the Coolpix 8400 looks like a chunky version of the 5-megapixel Coolpix 5400 but has a wider angle of view, an electronic viewfinder and larger monitor, plus an LCD data display on the top panel. The menu systems are identical in both cameras but the 8400's flash pops up and the mode dial sits above the command wheel on the top left corner of the camera body.

Wide-angle lens lovers will be thrilled with the shots the Coolpix 8400 can take. It's a powerful, flexible camera; but it's not the easiest or fastest camera to use.
