Just 6 months on from its already very capable predecessor, the Ricoh CX2 enters the competitive travel-zoom camera category with a new 10.7x, 28-300mm zoom lens. Other improvements include even faster 5fps burst shooting, new Pre-AF and Continuous AF focus modes, several extra scene settings, and improved face recognition. The Ricoh CX2 also features the same 3 inch HVGA LCD screen, 9 megapixel CMOS sensor, CCD-shift vibration correction system and fast operation as the CX1. Read our in-depth Ricoh CX2 review to find out if it's a worthy update...
A small Ricoh digital camera with a big zoom
After the impressive CX1 model last year, I was optimistic about the new Ricoh CX2. It offers the same body type and long-life battery, but with a few updates as well.
Ricoh's second CMOS-sensor digicam extends the zoom range of the previous model to 10.7 times.Ricoh's second CMOS-equipped digicam, the CX2, comes hard on the heels of the CX1, which we reviewed in March. It has the same 6.16 x 4.62 mm CMOS sensor with 9.3-megapixel (effective) resolution but boasts a new lens that provides 10.7x optical zoom and wide-angle coverage in a camera body that is only 29.4 mm thick.
This 9.3-megapixel camera has a 28mm–300mm (film-equivalent) lens with image stabilisation by sensor shift. It is bulkier than most compacts but in a reassuring way.
Ricoh has a unique way of snaring attention: like the delicate lilac hue of the CX2’s top panel, neatly capping the two-tone grey body. Pick it up and you immediately know which is the camera’s upper level, with power button, mode dial and zoom lever clearly seen. The style continues: the rear has the usual
This is a camera for taking pictures, not a toy to play with - and it's a great device.
Judging from Ricoh's CX2, in-camera HDR may just be the next big thing? The What Digital Camera Ricoh CX2 review...
Ricoh CX2 is a 9.0MP Small Sensor Superzoom camera with a 1/2.3-inch sized CMOS sensor and 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 lens. Read our CX2 review to find its pros and cons.
The 9.3-megapixel CX2 compact superzoom with 10.7x zoom offers capabilities that wouldn't be out of place on a cutting-edge digital SLR, including plenty of focusing options and an excellent dynamic-range mode. It also feels very well-made and responsive
The Ricoh CX2 is undoubtedly a machine for the more advanced user, but offers image quality to match for those that know what they’re doing and is
With its breakneck performance, fantastic screen and big zoom, this is almost a superb camera, but lens sharpness lets it down.
Is in-camera HDR the next big thing? Ricoh certainly thinks so.
