What Digital Camera test review of the Ricoh GX100
Announced back in March the Ricoh Caplio GX100 is officially the successor to the GX8, but it could equally well be described as a zoom version of the flagship GR-D, as it shares a very similar design, feature set and interface. The GX100 has several features to set it apart from the majority of 10MP compacts, most interestingly a 3x zoom lens with an unparalleled wideangle capability, covering a range equivalent to 24-72mm on a 35mm camera. This equates to an increase in the diagonal field of view of around 20 degrees field of view compared to the 35 or 36mm short end of most compact camera zooms - that's a huge difference if you're shooting interiors or landscapes. The GX100 is also the world's first digital compact to offer an (optional) removable electronic viewfinder, which slips into the flash hot shoe and tilts upwards through 90 degrees.
FacebookTweet Pocket digital cameras are ubiquitous. You probably already own one – you know, one of those little plastic wonders that fits in a shirt...
An elegant slimline digicam that provides many of the features and functions keen photographers require. As we noted in the Winter 2007 issue of Photo Review Australia magazine, there are few digicams that meet the needs of serious photographers. Ever an innovator, Ricoh has gone part of the way to provide a solution through its new Caplio GX100 model, which won the 2007 TIPA Award for the Best Prestige Camera. The GX100 has many of the features serious photographers require but, unfortunately, the physical dimensions of its sensor are rather small for its 10.1-megapixel resolution.
Can the GX100 offer semi-pro quality with compact camera convenience?
Expert reviews of all the latest cameras, lenses, smartphones and accessories, since 2003.
Ricoh's Caplio GX100 is a high end camera for experienced users. While average photographers may not fully appreciate the wide angle shooting and extremely crisp shots it produces, there is no doubt it's a great camera if you can afford it.

Review of the Caplio GX100 compact camera from Ricoh. Looking at overall performance and the benefits of being able to shoot in RAW format.
Ricoh has rarely jumped on digital photography's bandwagons and the Caplio GX100 is another oddity, combining compact looks and a 10-megapixel resolution with full manual controls, a remarkable wide-angle zoom and a removable electronic viewfinder
