When Nikon announced the D2X last year at photokina there was a good deal of anticipation about it, and a good wait that followed until it finally arrived. In the meantime, Canon countered with their EOS-1Ds Mark II, which in many ways shaped the competitive landscape. With a street price of $4999.95, Nikon's flagship digital SLR is $3000 less than the $8000 (body only) Mark II, albeit with a smaller CMOS sensor. Has the D2X met and surpassed expectations? In my mind it has been well worth the wait, being a camera that is solidly within
Review posted 6/1/05 Click to take a QuickTime tour of the D2X Unlike most digital camera upgrades, the new D2X was four years in the making - its sibling, the D1X SLR was released back in 2001. Unlike other professional digital SLRs, the D2X has a split personality - it's both a high resolution

Nikon delivers its answer to arch-rival Canon
The D2X review. Is the Nikon D2X just another notch in the log for Nikon? Not in my world.
Four years is a long time, especially in the digital photography business. When the D1X was announced back in February 2001 (along with the D1H) it was certainly cutting edge, offering almost six megapixels in the D1's proven quality body the D1X caused quite a stir. We reviewed the D1X in June of that year, in September (some seven months after the D1X's announcement) Canon introduced the four megapixel EOS-1D, followed by the EOS D60 in February 2002. So here we are almost four years since we reviewed the D1X with its successor the twelve megapixel D2X, and a lot has changed in those years.
Detailed review of Nikon D2X, with actual sample images, and a detailed data sheet.
Nikon D2X is a 12.0MP Pro DSLR camera with a APS-C sized CMOS sensor and Nikon F mount. Read our D2X review to find its pros and cons.
Steve's Conclusion It has been nearly four years since our Nikon D1X review. Its successor, the D2X, was announced by Nikon in September, 2004, and is only now becoming available. Four years is nearly an eternity in this business, and users of professional Nikon dSLR's have been patiently (?)
It's over a year since we last reviewed a Nikon DSLR camera and almost two years since we saw a professional model, which makes the new D2X particularly interesting. The D2X's core capabilities are almost the same as those of the D2H, which we reviewed in Photo Review October/November 2003 issue and both cameras look similar, which suggests similar handling characteristics. Despite its size and weight, the D2X has a comfortable grip in its standard horizontal configuration and is almost as good with the vertical grip. However, the underlying technologies in the new camera are quite different.

Nikon's flagship dSLR ranks among the best 35mm-format cameras currently made, but some pros may take umbrage with its less-than-full-frame sensor.
