If imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, one should look no further than the Nikon Coolpix P7000. This new flagship compact camera from Nikon bears such a striking resemblance to recent models in Canon’s G-series line, it’s almost uncanny. Not to say this is entirely a bad thing. Canon’s previous G-series camera, the 10-megapixel G11, received great reviews...
Nikon P7000 review, find out how the P7000 stacks up against the competition in our real-world review with in-depth image quality comparisons.
Nikon's latest digicam for photo enthusiasts who want a full range of controls plus support for raw files and HD video. It's taken a while for us to get our hands on Nikon's Coolpix P7000, although we've reviewed its main rivals: Canon's PowerShot G12 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. There's clearly a market for a competent, pocketable camera that supports raw file capture and offers P/A/S/M shooting modes. And it's obvious the main players are watching their rivals because all three models provide similar functions.

The Nikon Coolpix P7000 is a powerhouse of a point and shoot camera. It sports a 10.1MP image sensor and a 7.1x optical zoom. Along with a hot shoe for external flashes and the ability to capture…

The Nikon CoolPix P7000 is a 10MP, 7.1x zoom semi-pro compact.
Nikon have been closely competing with Canon in the DSLR arena for many years, but they've always come second-best (or worse) in the compact camera market. The new Coolpix P7000 is a clear attempt to redress that balance, with a completely revised design that is aiming for the jugular of the market-leading Canon PowerShot G-series. Read our in-depth Nikon Coolpix P7000 review to find out if it can topple the King from his throne...
Having survived a recent avalanche of maxi-zoom compact digicams, it comes as something of a relief to engage with this more modest but still well-featured camera. The Nikon Coolpix P7000 wins on a number of points: its moderate dimensions, with a pocketable thickness of about 45mm; another is the 15mm CCD, capturing 10.1 million effective
All three of these cameras share a similar design philosophy, being relatively small and compact while offering a high level of manual control. All are built to a high-quality, and all three boast high-end lenses with relatively fast aperture, stabilized lenses. Although all three also offer 10MP CCD sensors, the LX5's sensor is multi-aspect, which means that its 3:2, 16:9 and square format shooting modes do not take a serious bite into the effective resolution, making them arguably more useful than they might otherwise be. This is especially true of the 16:9 mode, which at 9.5Mp offers roughly 25% greater pixel coverage than either the S95 or P7000 in the same aspect ratio. They also all offer the same (diagonal) angle of view at any given lens position (see exmple below).
Nikon Coolpix P7000 review: A powerful but challenging point-and-shoot Nikon camera
Short Version: It’s no secret that I love photography. I’m also very attached to my DSLR. I rarely leave the house without it and consider it to be an important part of my life. That being said, I’ve found something that makes me leave my DSLR at home. I’ve finally found a camera that’s small
Design and controls We've been here before. The P7000 is one of the new breed of retro-styled point and shoot digital cameras that bears a passing resemblance to such 35mm film classics as Leica M-series cameras, as well as recent examples by Cont
