LG 55EC9300 - Pros & Cons

The picture is so silky-smooth and rich
near-perfect blacks
excellent contrast
and rich color that OLED
contrast on four of the five was visually identical
bright whites and perfect black levels
thoughtful
colorful layout
Shadow detail was very good in most scenes
reproduced visually perfect black levels
The system felt quick and responsive most of the time
the image has remarkable depth
pretty much everything else is great
crystal-clear image and impressive contrast range
it is pretty darn good
looked remarkably good upscaled
snappy and responsive
The air mouse also works neatly with the webOS interface
Color accuracy was fairly good
color gradation is quite good
Crosstalk is at a minimum and color reproduction is fairly good

the 55EC9300 is not THX certified
it s also the most frustrating
It does not output multichannel sound
blacks are worse then OLED
it may look a bit odd on a wall
LG did not make the TV VESA compliant for wall mounting
dreaded burn-in on a display model
slight reddish tinge
the cursor seemed to disappear too frequently
slight distortions and strange reflections caused
without DVR integration those results are useless
None of the active sets showed these artifacts
no VGA PC port since most video cards now
the OLED dream is now a reality
best plasma and LCD screens look somewhat washed out in comparison
EC9300 is not an easy TV to calibrate
the curved of the LG TV is not flawless
de-interlacing chip is clearly not the best
Color gradation has not changed much compared to the previous model
everything closes once the TV is turned off
overly steep gamma curve
tends to ramp up too quickly out of black into middle gray and white
yellow to skew a bit towards green
shrinking on the best TV technology
not as rich and colorful as they could be
ready to thrown in the towel just yet
the screen consumes a whopping 220 watts
only slightly dims the screen
Magic Remote can be tricky to use at times
particularly dim or unpleasant
it is no thicker than a pane of glass
tend to watch TV sideways
picture doesn't taper away uniformly
and one edge will look oddly foreshortened
Some 3D TVs omit this item to control costs
Component-video connections require three separate RCA plugs
