So much has changed since we reviewed our first high-def disc player years ago, but one thing that hasn't changed is that each generation manufactures add more features and charge less.

Sony's new BDP-S570 offers worthwhile features like integrated WiFi, DLNA streaming, and the BRAVIA Internet Video platform, plus an iPhone/iPod control app. This "3D-ready" player doesn't currently support 3D playback but will do so after a future firmware update.

For its fifth release on the Harmonia Mundi label, Stile Antico brings its heavenly harmonies to Tudor music for Advent and Christmas. The Sony BDP-S570 is probably the best all-round Blu-ray player yet. Not only does it rock with Blu-ray discs and SACDs, it blows the doors off the brave new world of TV streaming. Having BBC iPlayer on tap is a huge attraction, and if you have media files on USB, this deck will do its utmost to play them. For the cash, you just can't carp.
