Review of the Ricoh GXR mirrorless camera
So hats off to Ricoh for making an incredibly good camera on their first go. As far as failures go, the Ricoh GXR was a damn good one.
Ricoh GXR S10 24-72mm F2.5-4.4 VC is a 10.0MP Advanced Mirrorless camera with a 1/1.7
Ricoh GXR S10 camera (with 24-72mm Lens)
The new Ricoh GXR is a camera unlike any other - it's not very often that we get to say that! Ricoh have created a truly innovative modular system, where you swap both the lens and the image sensor at the same time, not just the lens as with a conventional DSLR camera. The GXR is also smaller than either a DSLR or the recent Micro Four Thirds cameras from Panasonic and Olympus. Can Ricoh succeed with their GXR interchangeable camera unit system? Read the World's first in-depth review to find out...
The Ricoh GXR is an oddball. It’s different than any other mirrorless camera out there -- with the GXR, you use the same base body, but switch out sensor/lens combinations. This format has some serious advantages and disadvantages compared to its competition. The Good Stuff: The Ricoh is revolutionary in the sense that no one has ever built a camera quite like this -- not on the small format, anyway. When companies make modular cameras, they make the lens separate from the body and sensor unit. Or they make all three (lens, body, and sensor) separate units.
“[The Ricoh GXR/S10] produces compact camera image quality.” We’ve added a new review of the Ricoh GXR [QuickPrice Check] to our Reviews Matrix. DPReview has posted their review o…
This is the second of two reviews of the GXR; as each module is effectively a completely different camera we've decided to treat them as such and produce separate reviews. This review covers the GXR with the S10 24-72mm equiv (10Mp 1/1.7" sensor) module, the previous one had a look at the GXR/A12 50mm f2.5 equiv (12MP APS-C sensor) combo. The first half of both reviews is the same, covering the GXR camera body and system.
A camera unit with a 1/1.75-inch CCD sensor and stabilised 3x optical zoom lenses for photographers who require versatility and pocketability.Having covered the camera body and A12 Macro camera module in our initial reviews, in this review we will focus on the Ricoh S10 camera unit, which appears to use the same sensor as the GR Digital III and GX200 and the same lens as the GX200. This unit will appeal to photographers who have been asking for a GR Digital III with a zoom lens.
