I have used this for several weeks, however only around ten days ago did the HDMI cable arrive. Do not try using a Blu Ray player without the HDMI cable as you will hear music, sound effects but no speech when using Composite cables supplied.
The new BDP-S300 is appealingly priced and broadly capable, especially with pictures – but it really ought to be much more than that

While the Sony BDP-S300 is an entry level Blu-ray player, entry level doesn't necessarily mean cheap. At $500, you're getting a capable high definition video player and that's about it. The
Our complete review of Sony BDP-S300, one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players available on the market today.
Sony BDP-S300 - Blu-ray disc player
A Blu-ray player for under £250 from Sony - what's that catch?
Looking for a reason to supercharge the old A/V system with high-def Blu-ray Disc playback? Sony, in dropping the price of its new BDP-S300 player a full hundred bucks to $499, seems determined to give you one. The move makes the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc player one of the least expensive of its ilk on the market, along with the company's own PlayStation 3 game console. Question is, how does Sony's entry-level standalone model stack up in performance and features against the other contenders?
3 More BD 4 U: Three second-gen Blu-ray players. Hot on the heels of the first, and almost universally lame, generation of Blu-ray players, here's generation II. In the case of two of these players, the big news is a substantial reduction in price. Both are less than half of their predecessors. In the case of the other, the news is its fancy HQV processing, the same that's found in the excellent Toshiba HD-XA2. I have to admit, I get a certain amount of perverse amusement mentioning HD DVD in a Blu-ray review (and vice-versa).
We know, we know, we're really late on this one -- thanks Sony -- but around here we think it's important to review every Blu-ray player.

The Sony BDP-S300 is a good blu-ray player. I cautiously use the word good because there is nothing spectacular about it. Sony’s BDP-S300 pulls ...
