Pros

  • clutch mechanism works great
  • High image quality and good construction len
  • Build construction is fantastic
  • excellent lens
  • very well build and balance and very nice image quality
  • optical performance of this lens is sublime
  • bokeh of this lens is really very beautiful
  • The lens is beautifully finished and feels solid
  • looks remarkably good
  • macro lens is namely also very well suited to portrait photography

Cons

  • the lens has a lot in common with the original AT-X model
  • The lens is physically quite small for a 100mm macro
  • the lens prone to hunting
  • AF speed is not the lens strong suit
  • shooting wide does produce some softness in the corners
  • the lens is not a G-type lens
  • The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem
  • Tokina has no internal AF motor and relies on a slotted drive screw
  • the lens tube extends considerably when focusing towards closer distances
  • the lens becomes a good bit larger
  • lack of image stabilization
