Last summer, we had the opportunity of reviewing the reasonably priced portable Bluetooth speaker in the SuperTooth Disco. Now after a long year of waiting, its successor in the aptly named SuperTooth Disco 2 is nearing availability – sporting the same $99.99 price point as its predecessor. However, this new version is flaunting one modern design that's sure to catch a few prying eyes. Redesign aside, let's hope it can still deliver the goods in the audio quality department...Read more
I am not what I'd consider to be an audiophile. I don't look down on folks who don't listen to vinyl records (kids, ask your parents), and I don't use $500 headphones. I do, however, throw away earbuds that come with phones (with perhaps one recent exception), and it'll be a cold day in hell before I use an unpowered speaker. That brings us to the object of today's affection -- the...Read more

3.0

The Supertooth DISCO 2: Bluetooth stereo speakers can be paired via A2DP Bluetooth-supported devices or through a audio plug. The DISCO 2 advertises a NiMH battery pack that holds up to 1,500 standby, 10 medium volume, and 3 to 4 high volume hours of use. So you can take the DISCO 2 essentially anywhere. I found the battery life estimates to be accurate and enjoyed that it took only 2...

Supertooth Disco 2 review

The SuperTooth DISCO 2 is a portable speaker that connects to all of your Bluetooth devices. Like its predecessor, it also offers a 3.5mm audio jack for direct connection to MP3 players, laptops, and other products. Regardless of how you opt to connect to the Disco 2, we're sure you'll enjoy the experience - we sure do.As fans of the initial Disco speaker, we were anxious to get our hands on this year's model. We got our first glimpse of the Disco 2 all the way back in January at CES and have been patiently waiting to try things out.If the previous model's form factor (4 x 14 x 4 inches ; 2.5 pounds) calls to mind a thick paper towel tube, this one reminds us of the squarish tissue box (4.2 x 2.8 x 7.2 inches ; 1 pounds) that many have on living room tables or night stands. It's probably no coincidence then that these are the perfect locations to place a Disco 2.  The model we tested was black however we have no problem imagining that the other colors would look as classy and unobtrusive. The front side of the Disco 2 features a pair of speakers  while the backside houses the bass system. You don't really see these unless you look closely.  At the bottom of the rear you will find a power plug, indicator light, and 3.5mm plug. As was the case with the first Disco, the light tells you the status of the battery (red = charging, green = full) when you plug in the power source. The Disco 2 has an internal battery that lets you go completely wireless and allows up to 10 hours of playback but varies depending on volume levels.  If you're the type who likes to turn it up to 11 then you might get a little under half of that. Charging only takes about 2 hours, on average, to go from empty to full. One of the features we enjoy most is the A2DP as it lets us control our music playback from the speaker. In cases where we advance tracks, pause, or resume, this is much handier than waking up the phone or tablet. To us, this is one of those options that, once you have used it, you miss it in other models.Pricing for the Disco 2 is right around $90 which we consider to be a great price. Considering the previous edition actually sells for more than that, this is a quart-sized bargain.Details:Bluetooth version 4.0 Operating range : 10 meters Frequency : 2,4 GHz High volume: 3 to 4 hours Medium volume: 10 hours Stand-by time: 1,500 hours Charging time: 2 hours Battery type: NI MH power packWhat we liked: Internal battery lets us go totally wireless A2DP and Bluetooth 4.0 give us more control than other devices. More portable than previous model Variety of colors to suit tasteWhere to buy: You can purchase the SuperTooth Disco 2 at Amazon for around $91.00 as it's not yet available on SuperTooth's website.
