Note that because of the similarities between the two models, some elements of this article have been taken or adapted from our in-depth review of the SLT-A65's higher-end sister model - the A77. The Sony SLT-A65 was launched alongside the SLT-A77 - the long-awaited replacement for the DSLR-A700. Although somewhat overshadowed by its higher-end stablemate at the time of its launch, the cheaper SLT-A65 has more mass-market potential and we believe there's every chance it's the A65 that will have the greater long-term impact.

The 24-megapixel Sony Alpha 65 is capable of shooting at a blazing fast 9 frames per second, but is held back by a kit lens that simply can't match the quality of the high-resolution image sensor.

Since my review of the Sony SLT-A77 hit the screens of many Digital Photography School visitors it’s obvious the company has pressed the right buttons for people wanting to lift their photo game. Now we have ‘son of’ … a model similar in many respects, at a lower price, but with many of the A77’s […]

Sony’snew camera introductionon August 24, 2011 was particularly fascinating because they introduced three totally new cameras, theA77, A65 and NEX-7. Three new cameras at once is of interest enough, but what caught my attention was that all three share the same 24 Megapixel sensor, the same 2.4M pixel electronic viewfinder, the same Bionz image processing [Read More]

Don't mistaken the SLT-A65 as a dumbed down version of the A77, for it still sports a 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, an OLED viewfinder, full HD progressive movie recording, and a burst speed of up to 10fps. Here's our verdict on this S$1,400 camera.

Most of the features of Sony's new SLT-A77 in a smaller, lighter and more affordable body. The SLT-A65 is the second of two SLR-style interchangeable-lens cameras announced by Sony on 24 August, 2011. Like the SLT-A77, which was unveiled at the same time, it features Translucent (pellicle) Mirror Technology, a 24.3-megapixel APS-C-sized sensor and new BIONZ image processor. Many other features of the A65 are the same as in the higher-featured A77, including the superior XGA OLED Tru-Finder and movie recording capabilities.

The Sony A65 is the second generation of Sony's SLT camera range, which replaces the optical viewfinder and moving mirror of a DSLR with an electronic viewfinder and a fixed semi-translucent mirror. The A65 ups the ante considerably with a 24.3 megapixel sensor, 10fps burst shooting, 1080p Full HD movies, high-resolution OLED viewfinder, 3-inch free-angle LCD, built-in GPS and an ISO range of 100-16000, all for just £800 / $900.
