PlayStation VR delivers a ‘full VR’ experience you can actually afford

While PlayStation VR lacks the raw power of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it’s going to make a lot of new VR fans.

Sony's Project Morpheus seems a long way off

Back in March Sony introduced Project Morpheus, its virtual reality gaming peripheral for the PlayStation 4. The peripheral will have 1080p resolution with a 90 degree field of view and accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit. It will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera, which will accurately track your head movement, and both PlayStation Move controllers and the handheld DualShock controllers. At Sony’s E3 press conference they reaffirmed that teams were hard at work at developing the peripheral focusing on software and sight and sound.

PlayStation VR: The Kotaku Review

Let’s cut to the chase: PlayStation VR should be better. At its best, Sony’s new virtual reality headset manages to conjure the astonishing, immersive wonder of modern virtual reality. Just as often it is frustratingly held back by outdated hardware that can’t quite do what’s being asked of it.

Review: ‘PlayStation VR’ is comfortable and affordable, but lacks must-have games

Sony, however, hopes to speed things up with PlayStation VR. It’s more complicated that that, naturally, but there’s good reason to think PSVR could be the best-selling VR headset of the year. Sony’s device is the most comfortable VR headset I’ve ever worn.

You know what? Sony did it. The PSVR is actually pretty great

It may not have the state-of-the-art tracking technology found in the HTC Vive, but the PlayStation VR is accessible, user-friendly, well-supported and above all, affordable.
