A super-smart TV, with active 3D, but let down by lacklustre colour
Mid-range marvel Sony continues its 3D resurrection with its latest 40in TV, says John Archer Sony’s EX723 series turned out to be some of the worst 3D performers we’ve seen, but subsequent 3D models have upped the brand’s game. On paper at least, this set looks equipped to do the business. It carries MotionFlow XR 400 processing; a system that combines the detail boosting, noise-reducing qualities of Sony’s new X-Reality picture engine with a 400Hz effect to hopefully kick crosstalk into touch.
Sony HX729 (HX720 in Europe) is a slim Edge LED based TV with all of Sony’s key features, including 3D, Bravia Internet Video, the X-Reality Pro engine
The Sony Bravia KDL-46HX729 is not recommended for avid 3D fans.
The current stand-out screen in Sony’s 2011 range, the KDL-40HX723 combines elegant design and class-leading IPTV services, with superior high-def
It's expensive, but this is a fantastic LCD all-rounder that has all the features we would expect and excellent image quality
The Sony KDL-40HX723 is the only HDTV we've reviewed this year that can deliver full HD 3D & judder-free motion at all times. Recommended.
Sony is on a mission to resurrect its 3D credentials with this mid-to-high-end 40in TV.
