Pros

  • Both the zoom and focus ring operate quite smoothly
  • It is a handy lens with technical compromises and great usefulness
  • is that the lens is free of zoom creep
  • AF performance feels quite good
  • Performance looks good for the price/size/speed
  • is just great to have the speed and zoom range at this size
  • focussing is quick and quiet but
  • The corner performance at 28mm is very good stopped down
  • Bokeh looks pretty interesting as well
  • Always Enabled Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly
  • fast and silent AF contributes to its usefulness

Cons

  • Manual focusing is rather difficult due to the very short focus path
  • Sony Lenses Not yet tested Lens Review Navigate Review
  • chromatic aberrations in the corners at close distances
  • the lenses are not in the same class
  • lens worse than they actually are
  • GM feels too heavy for an everyday walk around lens
  • bokeh is harsh and sometimes distracting
  • only a marginal amount of field curvature
  • regarding very heavy vignetting
  • the MTF results are not directly comparable across the different systems
  • There is no mechanical coupling to the elements
