An ultra-long zoom camera that produces excellent video clips with stereo sound. Image processing is rather slow and still picture quality is variable.Samsung's new Digimax Pro815 camera is an interesting beast in several ways, combining the best features of a compact digicam (integrated lens, live preview and video capture) with much of the shooting versatility of a digital SLR. Its black polycarbonate body has the largest rear panel LCD of any still camera and a top-mounted 1.44-inch wide data LCD doubles as a viewer for waist-level shooting. A neat (and useful) concept! The fitted Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan zoom lens covers the longest zoom range in a compact digicam (15x). [ia]
Samsung officially announced its first SLR-styled digital camera, the Pro815, an 8 megapixel, 15x zoom model back in June, but it didn't actually arrive until the late autumn. It's targeted at enthusiasts and boasts a lot of 'world firsts' including the largest LCD on a digital camera (3.5 inches), world's longest zoom on a high-end camera and world's largest capacity lithium-ion battery. The Pro815 sports a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and boasts a color data LCD screen for waist-level shooting, 2.5fps continuous mode and a wealth of photographic features.

Samsung Pro815 8 to 10 Megapixel user reviews : 4.3 out of 5 - 1 reviews - photographyreview.com
The Pro815 is a good first attempt by Samsung, but it is missing a few things that would allow it to compete with the big guns. The most practical feature is the 15X zoom, and if that is important to you then this may be a consideration
Samsung's Digimax Pro815 features several digital camera firsts, including the world's longest optical zoom lens--and it's a Schneider, too--and the largest LCD preview screen. It's all wrapped up in a Mad Max-design that looks like a digital SLR, except it's not. The Digimax Pro815 is an 8-megapixel fixed lens camera that provides three ways of looking at images, including that big preview screen, an electronic viewfinder, and, shades of Franke & Heidecke, a waist-level finder.
If you want great quality digital photographs but don't want an SLR, Samsung has the answer.
