Ricoh GR Digital II

Ricoh today announced the successor to its GR Digital premium compact. The Ricoh GR Digital II carries over the well-received 28mm equiv. lens from its predecessor, matching it to a new 10 megapixel sensor and new GR Engine II image processing system. For those of us with one leg longer than the other there is a new electronic leveling system à la Nikon D3 and the option to shoot TLR-style square images. Performance is said to be improved with a larger buffer memory and halved RAW file-write time with the option of continuous shooting. Battery life is also said to have come on leaps and bounds with up to 370 shots now possible on a charge - the original gave up after 250. The Ricoh GR Digital II will cost £399.99 when it hits UK shops in December.

A slim and lightweight wide-angle digicam with features and performance to attract serious photo enthusiasts.A successor to the award-winning GR Digital, which was released in October 2005, Ricoh's GR Digital II offers higher resolution and a new GR Engine II image processor but otherwise retains most of the features that made its predecessor popular with photo enthusiasts. Superficially, the diecast magnesium bodies of both cameras are almost identical, but the new model sports a slightly larger LCD.

Ricoh GR II sensor review: Modest update

As a high-end compact with the focus on portability and high image quality, the original Ricoh GR was a highly-regarded model. Adding Wi-Fi connectivity, improved buffering, and extended battery life to the original’s GR 28mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens in front of a relatively large APS-C type 16-Mpix CMOS sensor, the Ricoh GR II is a relatively modest update. Read on to find out how well this new camera performs.

7 Cameras with Character: Our Favorite Endearingly Eccentric Models Outside the Mainstream Box

When applied to humans, the word “character” has two distinct meanings, an oddball or eccentric as in “Fred is a real character” or a morally upstanding person, as in “Charlie is a man of unimpeachable character.” When it comes to machines created by humans, the word “character” conveys a slightly different constellation of meanings, hovering somewhere between “having lovable defects” like an old Model T Ford, and expressing a distinctive personality, like a classic Ferrari.
