How is it possible to take a compact digital camera that for most people is already perfect and improve upon its stellar features? It seemed as if this line had reached its pinnacle with the CX4, but in true Ricoh style, they weren’t about to let good enough suffice.
Another busy 6 months has passed in the digital photography world, and right on cue, the Ricoh CX5 appears as the replacement for the already out-of-date CX4 compact camera. New features include a faster hybrid auto-focus system Super Resolution technology, three scene modes, and Eye-Fi card support. The CX5 retains the 10.7x lens, 720p HD movies, 3 inch screen, and 10 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor of its predecessor. Read the World's first Ricoh CX5 review to find out if it can keep up with the travel-zoom competition.
Ricoh CX5 Review - CX5 Specifications
Like the Nikon S8100, the CX5 hides a huge lens in a small body. Behind the faintly boxy, 3cm-deep body lurks a lens that (converted to 35mm) runs from a wide-angle 28mm to a very long 300mm, with
Ricoh's CX5 features a specification befitting a advanced compact camera and a price-tag to match. But does it improve on the previous generation, the Ricoh CX4, enough to warrant the upgrade? Paul Nuttall finds out...
Ricoh CX5 review, find out how the CX5 stacks up against the competition in our real-world review with in-depth image quality comparisons.
A minor upgrade to the CX4 model with faster autofocusing, three new scene pre-sets and two new colour options.Aside from cosmetic modifications, nothing much has changed in Ricoh's CX series of slimline digicams since the CX3 was released early last year. The sensor is the same 10-megapizel back-illuminated CMOS chip and the camera has the same retracting 10.7x optical zoom lens. But under the hood, there's a new, faster 'hybrid' AF system plus three new scene modes.

The Ricoh CX5 is a well-built camera with a few design and implementation flaws that might dissuade newcomers to the brand from picking up an otherwise good device.
Ricoh CX5 camera review: A large compact camera with a 10.7x zoom lens and plenty of useful features
A company perhaps better known for photocopiers and large printers but they have produced digital cameras for a while. However this is the first of their units to have come my way, but all decent recent units have similar features.
