An elegant slimline digicam with above-average resolution performance and some innovative features.Ricoh has dropped the 'Caplio' tag and simply labels its latest digicam the R8. The new model, which is a minor upgrade to the 8-megapixel R7, sports a 10-megapixel CCD imager, 7x optical zoom lens and 2.7-inch LCD. Its body is a tad squarer and its LCD monitor slightly larger with a significantly higher resolution. The zoom lens and image processor are essentially unchanged.
PhotographyBLOG brings you the latest and greatest photography news, both film and digital, both global and UK-based.

What Digital Camera test review of the Ricoh Caplio R8
With the Caplio R7 rating as one of our favourite point-and-shoots of last year, the Ricoh R8 has a lot to live up to -- and it does. While you don't have many manual controls, this retro-style compact is feature rich and certainly tweakable, appealing to both novices and professionals
Is Ricoh’s compact finally up to taking on the big boys?
Ricoh is a camera manufacturer that tends to swim against the stream, not only in terms of product range but also in the way it schedules its product announcements. While all the big boys announced their new toys just before or right at PMA in Las Vegas, Ricoh decided to wait a couple of weeks longer and let the world know about the new addition to its compact camera range at a rather understated press event.
