Pros

  • clean
  • minimalist lines
  • excellent contrast keeps detail visible within the shadows
  • competently suppressed and detail is crisp
  • excellent onscreen menus and sturdy picture quality
  • Good looking
  • keenly priced and compatible with BD-Live

Cons

  • no YouTube support
  • it won't play videos with AAC audio tracks
  • lack of USB storage support is more of a shame
  • not all good news - the picture is quite noisy at times
  • picture noise can be seen quite distinctly in backgrounds
  • lack of analogue outputs restricts the sound quality to merely basic
  • of this is a big issue
  • no optical socket - plus an Ethernet connection and a USB input
  • lack of a USB for playing digital media from a memory stick
  • Philips has been slow to enter the market for Blu-ray players
  • disc tray can only play a very limited number file formats
