Announced on September 14th 2006, just in time for Photokina 2006 the new K10D is Pentax's first foray into the serious-amateur digital SLR market. It's bigger, tougher and more feature rich than any Pentax digital SLR before it and it certainly carries a wide enough range of features to worry the 'big name' brands. Headline features include a stabilized ten megapixel CCD, high quality image processing pipeline, dust and weather proof seals, 11-point AF (with 9 cross-type points) and some unique exposure modes. A full detailed list of the top 20 features can be found below. It's clear that Pentax are targeting the likes of the Canon EOS 30D and Nikon D200, on paper it's a very strong contender.
Pentax K10D (Compact Camera): 4.5 out of 5 stars from 4 genuine reviews on Australia's largest opinion site ProductReview.com.au.
A feature-rich, high-resolution DSLR for serious photographers with some innovative and useful functions.A relatively late entrant into the 10-megapixel DSLR category, the new Pentax K10D offers a number of advantages over its competitors, starting with its more robust, body, which has dust and weatherproof sealing. The plastic case is solidly mounted on a metal chassis, which gives added weight to the camera itself. Balance is excellent and the camera-plus-lens is comfortable to hold and operate. Built-in image stabilisation and dust removal on start-up are based on CCD-shift technology.

Pentax K10D Digital SLRs user reviews : 4.9 out of 5 - 10 reviews - photographyreview.com
The Pentax K100D is an awesome camera for the price and works with all the 24 million Pentax lenses made since 1964. Now Pentax Imaging is "kicking it up a notch" with the K10D, a more serious, even professional, D-SLR as evidenced by its stainless-steel chassis. The camera is weather-resistant with 72 seals, including shutter release and all switches, levers, and dials. Pentax announced the optional D-BG2 Battery Grip that, along with the camera's lithium ion battery, doubles battery life. It features the same rugged construction
A great feature set for the price, pro-level customization, and excellent photo quality make the Pentax K10D a bargain amateur dSLR. Only unremarkable performance holds it back from joining the pack leaders.
