Pre-PMA 2005: The new LZ series from Panasonic offer a compact body, four or five megapixels connected to an all-new 6x optical stabilized zoom lens. The LZ's new lens provides 37 - 222 mm equivalent with a maximum aperture of F2.8 to F4.5. The LZ1 has a four megapixel CCD and a silver body, the LZ2 a five megapixel CCD and black body. If these two cameras can live up to their spec then they should offer a killer combination of compactness, resolution, zoom and stabilization.Read more

  • the menu system itself is straightforward
  • Camera operation is straightforward
  • 128 - 256MB is a good tradeoff between cost and capacity
  • the body panels are mostly smooth and flat
  • solid and well-built
  • make it easy to shoot compelling lifestyle images

Cons

  • a slightly greater tendency to blow out highlights
  • only key feature missing is a microphone to record video sound clips
  • lost photos due to a corrupted memory card
  • image noise was a little high
  • flash cannot be used in the burst modes
  • bright colors tend to get very saturated
  • Memory card corruption can happen with any card type and any camera manufacturer
  • soft-focused backgrounds
