With a traditional looking design, the latest addition to Panasonic’s Lumix CSC range the GM1 is, arguably, the firm’s slickest camera yet. It has the same 16-Mpix-resolution sensor as the larger, rangefinder-style GX7, and although housed in a tiny aluminum shell it features a 3-inch touchscreen LCD, plenty of manual control and an electronic shutter capable of 1/16000th max shutter speed and 40fps burst.  Read on to find out how this super-compact model performs.

Not quite a day after Sony made its announcement of two mirrorless cameras with full frame sensors, Panasonic unveiled something of a very different shape: the Lumix DMC-GM1, a pocketable camera with a 16 megapixel Four Thirds sensor. It uses the same Micro Four Thirds mount that its much larger Olympus and Panasonic siblings have been using for years, but at introduction will be sold with a specially designed 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 kit zoom sporting a smaller diameter for the GM1's especially diminutive form.

Panasonic’s Lumix GM1 makes the record books for being the smallest Micro Four Thirds camera you can buy. However, its amazing size comes at the expense of performance and usability.

In the not too distant past, you had to choose between size or power for a digital camera. Now however, you can have your cake and eat it too. The Panasonic Lumix GM1 is a sterling example of a camera that can be compact, well-made and powerful at the same time.

The smallest Panasonic CSC to date comes with a retracting 12-32mm zoom lens that covers the same angles of view as a 24-64 mm lens on a 35mm camera.

The new Panasonic Lumix GM1 is unbelievably small. It’s just hard to believe that Panasonic somehow managed to stuff a 4/3 sensor inside of a camera body this compact.
