The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ72 is a bridge camera with 60x optical zoom and a 16.1 megapixel MOS sensor. Daniel Bell reviews.
A good all-rounder with a massive 60x zoom range, but overshadowed by the competition
The Lumix FZ72 - or the FZ70 as it’s known outside of Europe - is Panasonic’s answer to the superzoom that truly earns its super dues. With a top-end
The brand new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ72 super-zoom camera (also known as the DMC-FZ70) features a massive 60x zoom lens with a focal range of 20-1200mm, the biggest of any camera on the market. Other highlights of the FZ72 / FZ70 include a 3 inch LCD screen, full 1080i HD movies, 9fps burst shooting, P/A/S/M modes, RAW support, a flash hotshoe and a 16.1 megapixel MOS sensor. A bit of a let down compared to Panasonic's earlier models. If they could fix the camera's colour response they'd have a winner on their hands, but as it stands this mode isn't quite up to the high Panasonic standard.
Almost a year to the day since the introduction of the hugely popular FZ5 (and 4MP sibling the FZ4) - itself an upgrade to the FZ3 - Panasonic has announced its successor, the 6 megapixel DMC-FZ7. As well as a design facelift and an extra megapixel, the FZ7 introduces several handling and performance improvements over the FZ5, not least of which is the inclusion of manual focusing and significantly easier control over exposure settings via a new joystick (as seen on the DMC-LX1).

Panasonic Lumix FZ7
The latest instalment in the FZ series
Panasonic DMC-FZ7 review, find out how the DMC-FZ7 stacks up against the competition in our real-world review with in-depth image quality comparisons.
An easy-to-use, long-zoom digicam with an excellent menu system and effective image stabilisation. Available in silver or black, Panasonic's new DMC-FZ7 Lumix camera replaces the popular FZ5 and offers a higher-resolution sensor, larger LCD screen and a redesigned body that is slightly larger and heavier. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) has been relocated directly over the lens barrel, where it's more comfortable to use and your nose is less likely to touch the LCD - an important feature with the enlarged monitor. A new omni-directional joystick makes manual focus and exposure easier to operate and a higher capacity battery allows up to 320 images to be recorded per charge.
