Out of the box, the Optoma UHD52ALV offers accurate enough color for all those but the most critical. And at $1,799, it's an easy recommendation for it's intended use-case: a family room with ambient light.Read more
Optoma has given its media-savvy living room projector a brightness boost. John Archer leaves the lights on for some 4K HDR viewing Much as we love projectors, trying to use them in a dark room can be a pain. Particularly if their remote controls don't have any backlighting. Optoma's UHD52ALV delivers a solution to this eternal PJ problem: voice recognition. Plug in a supplied USB Wi-Fi dongle, and provided you have an Amazon Alexa or Google Home listening device, and the patience to set everything up, you can issue the projector with basic verbal instructions.Read more

  • The remote is simple and elegant
  • a strong set of features and plenty of brightness
  • a way-cool feature that I really appreciate
  • vibrant colors and plenty of bright scenes
  • pictures are also sharp
  • vibrant and clean
  • bold and subtle color tones
  • and good levels of sharpness and clarity
  • projector's innate motion handling is very good
  • Its focus ring is nicely calibrated too
  • deliver a strikingly effective bright room performance

Cons

  • brighter projectors tend to have higher black levels
  • frame interpolation (FI) feature is not available for 3D content
  • too high for my dark-room calibration
  • the color of human faces are little too red
  • brightness uniformity is very unfair
  • Google Home only works in the UK
  • only provides one dongle for free
  • Black levels are only fair to middling
  • does not sell these glasses
  • input lag could be made much lower
  • color saturation rather than significantly increasing the brightness
