Is the new 3DS XL more powerful?
    jacquelyne_gusikowski
As things stand, existing 3DS titles see no performance bump when running on New 3DS hardware, even those with unlocked frame-rates. Unless the software asks for the additional power, the New 3DS simply runs at the old version's speed - though you do get loading time improvements from the larger pool of RAM.

    Is 3DS XL worth getting?
    wallace
If you've never had a 3DS before, you may be wondering if it's worth getting one. I say it absolutely is worth it. With a large range of games (made even larger by its backward compatibility with the DS system's titles), there is no better time to grab one than right now.

Why did they discontinue Nintendo 3DS XL?
    chauncey
While Nintendo initially insisted it was not a "replacement" for the 3DS, declining support and sales meant the venerable handheld's time was limited. In the year to March 2020, only 69,000 3DS consoles were sold.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL refines an already great handheld

When the Nintendo 2DS released in October, 2013, I took this as a strong indication from the company that they were finally easing off on pushing the 3D aspect of their flagship dual-screen handheld. Sure it was a console marketed to parents concerned about the long-term effects of their children viewing 3D images, but it was also a reinforcement of what many of us who owned a Nintendo 3DS already knew: the 3D effect was not all that it was hyped up to be.
