The original Coolpix 900 swivel body design is revamped within this new S4 Coolpix carapace to great effect, however it is ultimately let down by
Nikon has today announced its first swivel lens cameras since the Coolpix SQ in February 2003, in the shape of the Coolpix S4 which is reminiscent of the legendary E9xx series. Looking slightly more stylish in silver than its ancestors, the six million-pixel S4 boasts a 10x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens as well as the D-Lighting function, a 2.5-inch LCD, in-camera red-eye removal and face-priority AF. Other features of note include AE-BSS, which selects the best relative exposure from a series of shots, plus a 4cm macro mode. The Coolpix S4 will be available at the end of this month priced €399.
If zooming is your thing, then the S4 might be the perfect point and shoot for you.
Looking for a feature-packed camera that won't empty your wallet? The S4 features a swivel-lens capable of 10x Optical Zoom, a 2.5" LCD screen and even includes rechargeable batteries and charger. But does it take quality pictures? Read on..

Japan's venerable camera maker returns to its roots
"Twist-and-shoot" convenience, above-average picture quality and use of AA batteries make this long-zoom lens camera a good choice for travellers.Nikon has returned to 'twist-and-shoot' styling for its 6-megapixel Coolpix S4 camera, which is the first 'slimline' model with a long zoom lens. With a maximum aperture of f/3.5, the 38-380mm (equivalent) lens is relatively fast and it's partnered with a 2.5-inch LCD monitor to allow easy shot composition. The lens isn't stabilised, although electronic vibration reduction is available in Movie mode. No viewfinder is provided.

Steve's Conclusion The Coolpix S4 marks the return of the swivel lens design that we loved on Nikon's earlier models like the very popular Coolpix 990, the Coolpix 995 and the Coolpix 4500. While still offering high-end features that users have come to expect from Nikon, the S4 is more aimed
