Build quality is very good
the lens feels nicely balanced on hand
the focus ring is also nice and thick
Autofocus and stabilisation systems work quickly and effectively
performance levels are nonetheless very good
Nikkor is a solid performer in its own right
Sharpness was very good throughout the range
Vibration reduction is impressive as well
The lens works well for birds in flight
Sharp images
fast focus and great detail
great performance for a reasonably low cost of
sharpness
excellent contrast and color rendition
find it works well with my D800
autofocus is working fast and the VR is very helpful at low light

the front lens element does not rotate on focus
95mm filter thread that does not rotate on focus
The lens is not claimed to be weatherproof
Nikon continues screwing up the tripod collar on such lenses
poor construction practices
does not extend when the lens is zoomed in
it still does not make the lens front-heavy
it can sometimes be difficult to keep a good grip on the barrel
only at 500mm are aberrations easily visible
it particularly hard to hold
and image quality suffered
Corner sharpness does fall off a bit
it is not fast
this lens is not a really a useful 500 mm lens as
it s a bit loose-feeling
markings on the lens barrel to show 90 rotation points
Not compatible with some older D-SLRs
the periphery is noticeably soft
