Pros

  • sharp
  • high contrast
  • great build quality
  • Excellent optics and build quality
  • is great for macro and can be used for portraits
  • the extra depth of field is nice
  • it has performed perfectly
  • It is excellent at infinity and brilliant at macro
  • The build quality is quite nice
  • the lens is a great performer at 1:1 magnification
  • looks natural and aesthetically-pleasing

Cons

  • The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem
  • performance was decidedly mediocre wide open
  • film/sensor plane is not possible and/or otherwise dangerous
  • the Manual / Auto selector is a bit clunky
  • it is not as fast as the 50 f1
  • Lens to subject distance is far too short for small shy lizards
  • renders foliage in the background
  • The rear is prone to fungus
  • susceptible to dust and dirt getting into the inner elements
  • Chromatic aberration looks terrible
  • strong chromatic aberration in the frame
