Pros

  • the way you can have loads of different distortions and clean tones
  • great with clean + my Dr
  • full tube sound
  • both clean and distortion channels are good
  • Good balance of tone
  • price and consistency
  • the DSL clean is relatively easy and straightforward
  • The clean channel is also an exceptional pedal platform
  • Great especially on the clean channel

Cons

  • Horrible
  • raspy overdriven tones without any sparkle or clarity
  • so many controls as to make the amp difficult to use
  • sound surges from thin and brittle to full and smooth
  • the palm muting sounds weak in the full on distortion mode
  • lack of good ventilation to let the heat out of the chassis
  • sounded very dull on both channels
  • the DSL 401 is not a metal amp
  • your guitar pickup has no low-end
  • #Marshall tone stacks are not responsive
  • it becomes more noticeable as you push the amp harder
