The Huawei P9 is the company's latest flagship phone. But do its two 12 megapixel Leica cameras set it apart from the competition?
Latest flagship smartphone from Chinese manufacturer has premium build, excellent Leica camera, fast fingerprint scanner – but its EMUI software is not quite up to scratch

With a DxOMark Mobile score of 80, the Huawei P9’s dual 12Mp RGB and monochrome sensors provide solid results. Our tests showed a nice improvement over its predecessor, the P8, which scored 74 overall, with the P9 offering improved autofocus and more consistent exposure and color results. The P9’s sub-scores of 84 points for photo and 72 for video demonstrate Huawei’s latest device is particularly strong for still photography.
Comprehensive manual settings and DNG Raw shooting make the Huawei P9 stand out in terms of photographic control, though image quality doesn't quite match the best-in-class. Read more
Text: Rajat Sharma, TOI Tech Despite having the veritable distinction of being the largest telecommunication equipment manufacturer in the world, Huawei's success in the Indian subcontinent can be considered only as nascent. While the Nexus 6P firmly established the fact that Huawei is very much capable of building best-in-class flagships, the success of the 'Honor' line-up has proved that the company can do equally well when it comes to affordable yet feature-packed phones. But Huawei is going all guns blazing with its newest launch in India, the P9. Unveiled at an event in New Delhi, the Huawei P9 has (almost) everything one would expect from a flagship-class droid. But what truly sets it apart is the dual-camera setup at the rear. Engineered in collaboration with German imaging pioneer Leica, the P9 has two 12MP sensors, with one being RGB and other monochrome. This all sounds very exciting, but what about the rest of the goodies expected of a flagship? How well-made is the device? How it performs in terms of day-to-day usage? And most importantly, is it a smartphone that's truly worthy of commanding a price tag Rs 39,999 ? We try to find the answers, in our comprehensive review of the Huawei P9. Huawei P9 review: It's just not value-for-money
Good design outshines dual cameras
A flagship phone that's consistently different but too inconsistent to challenge the best
Chinese firm’s super-sized flagship is great, with fun camera, excellent selfies, snappy performance and solid battery life - it’s just a shame about the customised Android
Dual cameras worthy of a double take
The Huawei P9 with its co-engineered Leica camera setup could be one of the best smartphones Huawei has released to date? Let's find out in our P9 review.
