It looks upmarket, but is it?
DxOMark has published its image quality test results for the Sony Xperia M5.
The Sony Xperia M5 offers most of the features of the flagship Z5, but for substantially less money. Its super-slim design is very nearly the same, and its 21.5 megapixel camera with 4K video makes the M5 one of Sony's best ever camera phones. The 8-core Helio X10 processor isn't quite as fast as the Snapdragon 810 used in top-end phones, and the memory is just 16GB, but for the price, we think that it offers exceptional performance.
More storage, more power, more megapixels – for a lot more money
With an overall DxOMark Mobile score of 79, the Sony Xperia M5 camera provides solid image quality results across most situations. Its 21.5MP sensor helps it capture image detail, while also keeping noise under control. Low noise and lots of detail make it ideal for capturing complex outdoor scenes such as cityscapes. There is some loss of sharpness in the corners, though, so don't expect the same image quality edge to edge.
For a company that’s struggling to make its mobile business work, Sony sure like to pump out smartphones. The top-end Xperia Z range has three models to choose from, ranging from the excellent pint-sized Z5 Compact all
The Sony Xperia M5 is a mid-range phone with high-end specs, but just how good is it really?
