New to VR? A beginner's guide - VR World

Virtual reality (VR) produces a computer-generated environment–complete with realistic sights, sounds and other sensations–which a person can explore by wearing a special kind of headset and, in some cases, using certain props. Basically every VR experience will allow the user to feel as though they are in this simulated world and look around it, while more advanced systems allow for movement and interaction. While the ability of VR to provide valuable, realistic experiences without introducing real-world risks has found many fans across various industries (from healthcare to real estate), the most popular types of virtual reality content remain video games, movies and television. HTC Vive (and extended warranties) now available at Newegg

Disclosure: GameCrate is a part of Newegg.com, but we think this news is worth reporting regardless.  If you've wanted to get your hands on an HTC Vive now's your best chance yet, because the most advanced VR experience currently on the market is now available on Newegg.com.  The Vive allows you to do a lot of pretty amazing things, from 3D VR art creation to shooting dinosaurs right in their snarling faces, but the question of whether to actually jump onboard the VR early adopter train is a tough one for many gamers.

You could say revisiting our HTC Vive review eight months after launch doesn't make a lot of sense: Its hardware hasn't changed at all and its gaming library hasn't seen a dramatic overhaul. From another perspective, though, those are precisely the reasons to re-evaluate the Vive. With its biggest…

HTC Vive Review: A Beautiful Machine With One Major Flaw

Virtual reality has always been an expensive hobby. Even in 1995, when the only VR option was the Nintendo Virtual Boy, it was hard to justify spending money on the device. It was uncomfortable to wear. It didn’t have any good games. And it was a little ahead of its time. Fast forward to this week, and after spending hours playing with the HTC Vive, I can safely say that VR is still an overpriced novelty.
