Pros

  • Versatile
  • excellent for hiking
  • geocaching
  • wilderness navigation
  • Super sensitive receiver very reliable signal in almost all situations
  • and the windshield mount performs very well
  • Satellite reception is quick
  • and battery life is good
  • one handed
  • comfortable and secure operation
  • pretty nice feature set

Cons

  • SiRF chips was spotty
  • No direct interface with full US electronic map coverage
  • GPS units should not be a primary navigational tool
  • lost reception has been while driving through tunnels
  • still not a substitute for a map and compass
  • Garmin Maps can be downloaded to the Etrex
  • Rubber armor delaminates which is a real pain
  • Memory - It has no built in memory
  • The GPS unit does not act as a memory card reader
  • it takes a fair amount of time to download maps
