This is one of a long range of cameras with the %C2%91PowerShot%C2%92 name produced by Canon. It is also a contender for one of the best; it allows both the novice and those more advanced to get the best from it as well as from themselves.
The SX30 offers the longest optical zoom to date at 35x, and is a fine camera for everyday photography. Tricky lighting and shooting at its full zoom extension is where the SX30 falls flat.

The Canon SX30 IS is one incredible superzoom bridge camera. It combines an ultra-long 35x zoom with unsurpassed 4.5 stop image stabilization to allow you to take pictures that you never thought you'd be able to.
They’ve got to be kidding! No…. It’s true. The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS has a 35x zoom lens! Stabilised and with a reasonably fast f2.7 maximum aperture. I had an early preview of this gem a few months before its official release and was stunned at the range of the hyper zoom. Then, more recently,
A new Canon super-zoom digicam with a stabilised 35x zoom lens, full manual controls and 720p HD movie recording. The PowerShot SX30 IS replaces the year-old SX20 IS at the top of Canon's super-zoom line-up but is $120 cheaper than its predecessor was at launch. Its 35x zoom lens is a significant step-up from the predecessor's 20x zoom and resolution has been increased from 12.1 to 14.1 megapixels. Otherwise, most of the differences between the two cameras are more cosmetic than functional.
Canon's 35x super zoom is being touted as the biggest on the planet. Does this PowerShot show that biggest is best and truly offer the most emcompassing all-in-one solution?
The enormous 35x zoom is tempting but neither the lens nor the sensor lives up to expectations at this price.
Really good choice if you’re after a super-zoom compact
