Table Of Contents_Why We Like It – Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark IIPerformanceDesignValueCanon PowerShot G7 X Mark II Wrap Up Reader Rating0 Votes09Expert RatingThe Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a step in the right direction for Canon and features many improvements over its predecessor. It also features a zoom lens that’s even more ambitious than the Sony RX100 which may earn it a distinction place in our best point and shoot camera list. You’ll just have to visit […]
Sometimes it’s drawn to my attention just how ridiculous my life can be. Some things which I’ve come to take as normal really just aren’t. Most people don’t travel internationally multiple times each year (or even once a year, or every two), and when they do, most people pay for this. My side hustle as […]
A well-built, high-resolution digicam with enough adjustments to delight gadget freaks, impressive video facilities and above average performance.Canon's new PowerShot G7 has much to recommend it over earlier G-series models, with a redesigned body that's slimmer and 60 grams lighter than its predecessor and has classic rangefinder-like styling. Sensor resolution is now 10-megapixels and the vari-angle LCD is replaced by a fixed 2.5-inch monitor. The optical zoom range increases from 4x to 6x and image stabilisation is added. On the downside, raw format support has been dropped, the G7 is limited to the sRGB colour space and you can see the lens through the viewfinder when it's at its widest setting.
Announced just before Photokina 2006 in September 2006, the G7 came as something of a surprise to many who had written off the G series of high end PowerShots when the G6 (launched 2004) wasn't updated last year. The G series has a long and distinguished history at the top of Canon's PowerShot range, offering SLR-like functionality in a solid, compact body and high-end features such as fast lenses and external flash capabilities. The G7 continues the tradition, adding all Canon's latest gizmos (including the new Digic III processor, face detection and image stabilization), though since its announcement there has been heated discussion about some of Canon's decisions - particularly the loss of raw mode and the slower lens. So let's find out if the new model is a worthy successor to the G6, or if Canon really has - as some users feel - squandered the legacy of one of the most acclaimed cameras in the short history of digital photography. We'll start, as ever, by looking at the headline features:
The Canon G series has traditionally represented the best in prosumer digital photography. Does the G7 measure up?
