Review of the Sony A7R Mark IV mirrorless camera
When Sony officially unveiled the 61MP A7R IV full frame mirrorless camera in New York City last month, I made a joke on Twitter that didn't go over very well. I tweeted, facetiously, that the A7R IV was the best DSLR that Sony had ever produced.
Big sensor in a small body - that's the USP of the new Sony A7R camera. Offering a 35mm full-frame sensor inside a relatively compact body that takes interchangeable lenses, the A7R is a truly unique and genuinely exciting proposition. Is the Sony A7R the ultimate fusion of DSLR technology and compact system camera size? Read our Sony A7R review to find out...
This category has something for everyone, whether it's ultra-high resolution, 4K video, high dynamic range, or pinpoint AF accuracy. For the enthusiast or pro who refuse to compromise, here's a look at cameras priced over $2000. Read more
Which high-end full-frame camera should I buy? This roundup contains the majority of current full-frame camera offerings available. Full-frame cameras have image sensors as large as a frame of 35mm film, and for good reason: larger sensors offer the potential for better image quality, low light performance, and dynamic range. If you want a drastic upgrade to the image quality of your phone, or portraits with superior subject to background separation, it’s hard to beat what full-frame offers.
Lower-cost options for avoiding the WATE The Sony a7R is receiving plenty of well-deserved attention since its announcement in mid-October. As prototypes appeared in selected hands (such as Michael Reichmann’s), “first-impression” style reviews quickly followed (e.g., Sony Alpha 7R Hands On right here at the Luminous-Landscape). Production cameras were released in November, and dozens, if not hundreds, [Read More]
IntroQualitySamplesVerdictIntro The Sony Alpha A7r is a mirrorless system camera with a full-frame sensor. Announced in October 2013 alongside the more affordable A7, they are the World’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless system cameras; note Leica has long offered its M series with full-frame sensors and interchangeable lenses, but they’re larger, heavier and manual focus…
One small step for Sony, one giant leap for mirrorless cameras
We recently toyed with Sony's game-changing full-frame mirrorless cameras, the similarly-titled Alpha A7 and A7R. Here's our first-take on the A7R.
The Sony A7s are the culmination of a dream: full-frame mirrorless cameras in a compact frame. The Sony A7R takes that dream up a notch by including a 36MP sensor inside without an optical low-pass filter. I thought it wouldn't work, and here's how the A7R changed my mind.
If there's one thing you can say about Sony's digital camera business, it's that they've experimented with many different concepts. From SLRs with dual autofocus systems and Translucent Mirror Technology to its NEX mirrorless line-up, Sony has gone down virtually every avenue in digital imaging. Its latest products - the Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R - may be the most exciting products to come out of the Sony labs in some time. The company has managed to create full-frame cameras which are about the same size as the Olympus OM-D E-M1. In other words, the Alpha 7s are much smaller than their full-frame interchangeable lens peers (such as Nikon's D610 and the Canon EOS 6D), an achievement made possible primarily because they're not SLRs.

The new Sony A7 and A7R cameras had people fumbling over each other to get to the cameras at PhotoPlus 2013. As a refresher, the Sony A7 and A7R are Sony’s first full frame mirrorless cameras…
