Pros

  • Background blur quality is decent
  • Dimensions and weight are very important when traveling
  • It is convenient for them to shoot reports indoors
  • sharp
  • fast autofocus and beautiful bokeh
  • Solid and competent
  • great fast lens at an affordable price
  • The body is VERY sturdy and manual focusing is geared well
  • It balances nice on my Rebel and looks nice too
  • Super sharp

Cons

  • The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem
  • more expensive
  • travel is not its only use
  • the lens suffers from focus shifts upon stopping down
  • lense does not extend while focusing which helps prevent dust getting inside
  • need the most expensive lens to create the best image possible
  • distortion
  • weight and light fall off of the zoom
  • no means a macro optic
  • the lens is very prone to color fringing in high contrast scenes
  • sharp at its maximum aperture and is prone to color fringing
