Though the Alessandro MS1 suffers from the same isolation, comfort, and portability issues as the competing Grados, they offer quite a lot of sonic bang for the buck.Read more

Pros

  • MS1 is exceptionally crisp and energetic
  • both relatively neutral and extremely engaging
  • Guitars and vocals do remarkably well on the MS1
  • Separation is very good and imaging is super sharp
  • incredibly punchy and agile
  • MS1 s are still a very impressive performer
  • MS1 s are very comfortable
  • plenty of air and extension
  • nice body to each note
  • The midrange is smooth and layered
  • the headphones are also very comfortable

Cons

  • Grado / Alessandro is Rock music and Metal Music
  • Alessandro s are very hard to beat indeed
  • Double entry cable is not ideal for wearing comfort
  • Adjustment mechanism is flimsy and can cause the cable to twist
  • loss of focus misses out on that last bit of detail
  • get scratchy over time
  • somewhat alleviated by washing/conditioning
  • MS1s are a bit on the anemic side
  • magic is lost due to the extra bass and distance of the driver
  • The midrange is a little less prominent
  • Treble is probably the most polarizing aspect of the Grado sound
